Not sure I'm spelling it right. I have heard a few allusions to it, but nothing to give me any real clue other than that it is some type of food and is probably from Australia.

What is it?

  1. Haha well I'm australian and if your aussie and dont know what Vegemite is then your actually not aussie. It's great! Best thing you can have on toast. I'm vegan so i use tons of vegan margarine and vegemite on toast and lovvvveeeeee it! but i hear most americans and stuff dont like it. Very popular in australia though.

  2. it's a spread you put on toast.. i think it's made of some bacteria or something anyways, it's an acquired taste... I think it's gross

  3. Not sure if this is what you are looking for:

  4. It's a spread you put on toast or sandwiches. Basically it's a yeast spread made from the stuff left at the bottom of the vats they brew beer in (although Vegemite isn't alcoholic). Like most aussies, I grew up on the stuff and think it's delicious. It's very salty and goes well on toast with melted cheese, avocado and/or tomato.

  5. Pagans!

Vegemite is a thick black paste made from yeast extract that you spread on toast. It is one of Australias truly great inventions and is loved by most Aussies. It is somewhat of an acquired taste.

    Most other races hate it.

It has a variety of uses for children including face makeup, wall painting and wiping in the dog.

  6. It is a thick and delicious spread made from extract of yeast. The yeast is taken from various breweries, although the yeast varies in species the taste always stays the same.

  7. When beer is fermented, the yeast residue settles to the bottom of the fermentation tank. Basically, vegemite is dead yeast. It's an acquired taste, but Aussies and Kiwis can't live without it.

  8. It's this horrible tasting spread. Just thinking about it makes me want to die...

  9. Vegemite is one of several yeast extract spreads sold in Australia. It is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract (a by-product of beer manufacture) and various vegetable and spice additives. It is very dark reddish-brown, almost black, in color, and one of the richest sources known of Vitamin B. It's thick like peanut butter, but it's very salty.

    Yes, i'm Aussie =)

  10. pure unadulterated nastiness

sorry but its basically old vegetables made into a spread you put on toast or bread.

it was so bad, it was a camp fear factor thing, and the other thing was a fermented duck egg so yeah.

  11. Vegimite is like peanut butter, but has more of a salty-ish taste to it. It taste's rather good on toast. And yes, it's from Australia.
