  1. The World Trade Organization (WTO) (OMC - French: Organisation Mondiale du Commerce, Spanish: Organización Mundial del Comercio) is an international organization designed to supervise and liberalize international trade. The WTO came into being on January 1, 1995, and is the successor to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which was created in 1947, and continued to operate for almost five decades as a de facto international organization.

The European Union (EU) is a supranational and intergovernmental union of twenty-seven states in a category of its own. It was established in 1992 by the Treaty on European Union (The Maastricht Treaty), and is the de facto successor to the six-member European Economic Community founded in 1957. Since then new accessions have raised its number of member states, and competences have expanded.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, commonly referred to as ASEAN, pronounced /'ɑ.si.ɑn/ ("AH-SEE-AHN") in English, is a geo-political and economic organization of 10 countries located in Southeast Asia, which was formed on August 8, 1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand as a display of solidarity against communist expansion in Vietnam and insurgency within their own borders. Its aims include the acceleration of economic growth, social progress, cultural development among its members, and the promotion of regional peace.
