  1. Waiver priority is fairly simple actually.  Picking up players off the Free Agent List actually does not affect your waiver priority.  Let me explain this way.  Lets say someone in your league for whatever reason decided to drop a really good player...maybe someone like Chipper Jones.  In most leagues if a guy is dropped he is on waivers for a period of time (usually 2-3 days), and that means that he cannot be added to someones roster until this waiver period is over.  In theory you could wait until the waiver period ends and hope to pick him up afterward off of free agency, but most of the time this will be too late.  THAT is when the waiver priority becomes important.  Chances are if a high caliber player is available on waivers more than one team is going to put through a request to get him on their team.  Now if you are ranked #1 in waiver priority in your league, then nobody else really matters.  If you make a waiver request for a player  it doesnt matter who else trys to make one, you will get the player.  BUT...if you are ranked #1 in waiver priority, make a request for a player and GET the player, you will automatically be moved to the end of the line in the waiver priority.  Basically it allows you to make a move on bigger named players if they become available.  Its difficult to know when you should use your priority and when you should not, but you want to be ranked higher if given the opportunity.
