  1. Warranty is a legal contract between the seller and buyer of a product, obligating the seller to repair or replace the product if the product fails to perform properly.  Most warranties are in force for some limited period of time after the purchase date, and most warranties have other limitations.

For example, the product must be used in the way intended by its manufacturer and must be maintained according to the manufacturer's published maintenance schedule.  Warranties may apply only to certain parts of a product.  The warranty on a new car, for example, may not include the tires, which are warranted separately by the tire maker.

Warranties may be express (written out specifically for a particular product and buyer) or implied (created by law and assumed to be in force in all situations).

In most developed countries, for example, there is an implied warranty on the roof of a house.  If I sell my house, state law warrants the roof for two years; that is, if the new owner finds the roof leaking after buying the house from me, I am compelled by law to repair or replace the roof at my expense.

  2. Warranty means that, for a limited period of time, if that product which has warranty, fails to operate, or damages in any way, the company will replace the product or fix it free of charge.

However, factors come in which contribute to void your warranty. For instance, misuse of the product, or if you caused the damage yourself.

  3. Typically a warranty on a product means that if it fails within the warranty period, they will replace the part either free of charge, or on a pro-rated basis.
