Obviously for glass and windows. But I got in an argument with a friend about Windex being used as sort of like a multi-purpose cleaner, of course not like using on your stove and toilet but more like a desk, a computer, a phone. I said it can be used on multiple surfaces. She says not. Who is right?

  1. Well, kinda both of you...

See, you can use it on  lots of things, just not EVERYTHING. You can use it on glass, the back of a phone, a stove top, and the glass inside and outside of a microwave. lol

But, if you are going to use it on things that could be damaged, like wood surfaces, you will need to spray it and wipe it dry it very quickly. So good luck, and happy cleaning!

  2. you are.  windex is a multipurpose cleaner whether or not the label says so

  3. You are right!

Windex can be used as an all purpose cleaner.

However, do not use it to clean any LCD screen, either computer or TV.

  4. I think you are right, but read the label to see if there are any warnings about wood finishes.........wait................

Yep, just read the label of my glass cleaner, Not Windex brand, it's "great Value from Wal-Mart. Anyway it says not to use on finished wood or metal alloys like brass, copper, or pewter.

Other than that I'd say it's safe. As for the computer it just says to unplug any electrical appliances before using, but it's safe on the plastic casing I use it all the time.

  5. umm i sometime use it on granite or a stove top

  6. Watch "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and you'll get your answer.  :)

  7. Windex is a trademark for a glass and light-duty hard surface cleaner manufactured since 1933 (currently by S. C. Johnson & Son) and popular in the United States and Canada since the mid-20th century.

The popularity of Windex in the US has led to the generic use of the trademark for any similar product, including those marketed under different brands, or simply labelled, e.g., Window Cleaner.

Long and short of it, you're correct ;-)

  8. I think you are. The only things you wouldn't want to use it on are items that could be damaged by water such as electronics.

  9. if you're using Windex that has ammonia in it, you should be cautious when using  it on painted or varnished surfaces. I've used ammonia to remove paint. Windex does make an all purpose cleaner, however.

  10. Either one of you may be correct or incorrect. Windex should not be used on wood surfaces or wood desks. The solvent base of Windex may not be good for laptop computer screens, but you're correct, Windex can be used on a multitude of non-porous surfaces
