What is Wollongong like? Is there any places to go to eat? Any entertainment places?

Wollongong is a great place. Its located on the south coast of NSW about 1-1.5hrs south of Sydney.

There are loads of restaurants to suit all tastes, from asian to italian to seafood. The Lagoon Seafood Restaurant have beautful food so do the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour. There are take away food shops in every suburb.

We have the entertainment centre which hosts alot of the big names that you see in Sydney. We also have the win stadium, home of the St George Illawarra Dragons.

We have a few nightclubs which are ok in comparison to the city. Rusty's is now a g*y nightclub called Castro's though all are welcome, Bourbon Street is up and running again, Glasshouse (was my fave) The Blue Note (very dicy place), Abbey's (older crowd) and The Harp.

There are also many pubs, these are my preference. Cooney's, North Gong, Torys (in Kiama) and Ocean Beach Hotel (Shellharbour pub) are the ones that attract a crowd.

Theres many sports, shopping centre, etc.. Just about everything people like to do for a past-time. Not to forget our gorgeous beaches.

Its only a short drive to the city should you need to go there or choose to work there.

I grew up near wollongong and i love it!

its a beach side town south of sydney, about one hour by car, but you can also get there by train.

There are plenty of places to eat! Ranging from simple take away shops where you can buy fish and chips (for around $5) then go eat them on the beach OR you can try a nice seafood restaurant overlooking the water for a bit of a pricier option.

They also have plenty of ethnic restaurants and a great greek place that i used to go

As for entertainment, wollongong is a university town ... with the uni only 5 mins from the main strip of town, expect lots of students on student nights (wednesday > sat!) some great little pubs etc and some fun clubs ... if you're a student and show your card, you may get in for free, or cheaper. Wednesdays are great fun with some drink deals at a club call Rusty's , Bourbon Street..... Plenty of entertainment. I used to live 30 minutes away, but me and my friends would frequently drive to the gong for a night out, its beautiful !!

Oh , and the shopping is good too - some good sized malls and boutiques,,,, seriously, i cant flaw this town, its beautiful!

Wollongong has some beautiful beaches, nice eating places and the shopping isn't too bad, we spent two days there with my hubby's distant cousins last year, sadly we never got out of an evening to see what entertainment was on, Australia is the most amazing country and I can't wait to go back next year.
