There are many many Yahoo Groups where members discuss topics in which they are interested.  Example:  If you are interested in antique automobiles, you could join one or more related groups.  The members post messages about their cars or parts that they might be looking for. You could read and you can reply to those messages.  Some people become personal friends if the group is limited to one local area.  Usually groups have members all over the country and it would be difficult to get to know them personally but you could be what's called a "cyber-friend" even though you would never meet them in person.

eg. Astrology. Forum members discuss points of interest and clarify things.

Usually like minded people exchange knowledge.

Yahoo Groups can be a good way to make friends. It also is for people who have the same interests. Join a group you if want and then share the same interests with other people. It's definitely a good way to make friends.
