  1. Stir-fry with cornstarch base.

  2. was it on the menu? could be a misspelling of cat

  3. I'm thinking... a misspelling of yak..

    =]

  4. Yat in Chinese food?

I know that a Yat is a slang name for a native New Orleanian, but Chinese food???

What's the full name of the dish?

Edit... doing a little research.  The dish that pops up is "yat gaw mein" which is a noodle dish that seems popular on the East Coast.

    Edit again...

I think Yat is code for the kitchen.  There's the guy that always makes fun of us by ordering flied lice.  Make his order extra special with a little extra "Yat".

An unusual omlette whose recipe I found in a magazine. I am yet to try this one. Quite frankly, I am all for a more... uhh... conventional omlette.

    200 g prawns

    150 g squid

    50 g green peas, frozen

    100 g snow peas, sliced

    100 g carrots, diced

    100 g onions, chopped

    30 ml tomato sauce

    1 teaspoon fish sauce

    10 ml soy sauce

    1 teaspoon garlic, chopped

    1 teaspoon sugar

    2 tablespoons corn oil

    salt, to taste

    Directions

1Fry garlic and onion till translucent.

2Add prawns and squid and saute till cooked.

3Add all the vegetables and sauces and stir-fry for 5 minutes.

4In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and a little salt and pepper.

5Heat the corn oil in a hot pan and pour in the egg mixture to make a thin, flat omlette.

6Place the omlette on a plate and spread the cooked ingredients on one half of the surface.

7Fold the other half over and garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves.

    8Serve hot.

  6. I go in that part of the world often and I have never heard of Yat.

  7. I frequently order yat gaw mien soup with pork from my local Hunan take out place.  The New Orleans Yats were not originally native to that city, but were Irish residents of Brooklyn who have retained their Brooklyn accents.

  8. there's a chance that they misspelled whatever they're trying to say.  Plus a lot of times when translating, non-english speakers end up using blizzards words.

The only way to be sure is to either ask them or just order it.  Chinese restaurants generally vary place to place anyway.
