  1. Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek. Basically meaning South African Republic. Today its called the Republic of South Africa but the ZAR acronym is still used occasionally though the RSA acronym is more widely used now.

    BTW, why is this question in non-alcoholic drinks?


  2. ZAR - Afrikaans word for Republic of South Africa or Rand as is used to describe the South African currency(RAND)

    Although in the new South Africa we now proudly have 11 national languages,this name has stuck.

  3. ZAR stands for South African Republic...but some folks also use it to mean South African Rand/Railway!! :)
