  2. Zen is a type of Buddhism practised mainly in the Far East.

In my view it's not true Buddhism, as it's way out of line with what the Buddha actually taught. (Similar to how Christianity as practised today is way out of line with what Jesus actually taught.)

  3. My room mate is from Japan. She says Shintoism is the main religion in her country. Buddhism began in India, and it spread all over Asia. Chinese Chan Buddhism became Zen in Japan. There've been many Zen teachers, so it's hard to summarize it briefly. It's Buddhism though.

  4. Google it.. i thought zen was just uknow like englightenment, peace etc.

  5. Here is great video explaining Zen.

Narrated by the late great Alan Watts.

  6. What is Zen philosophy? First of all bad approach truly Zen is not a philosophy nor is it a religion it is simply a way to live. What is it, it is everything around you Zen is your inner most being and your outermost at the same time. It is living in the present moment but being aware of each thing in it. Zen is the sun shining down on you without thought for you, but caring for you anyway. It is a tree being blown by the wind. Best be still, best be silent.

  8. Zen teaches us to dissolve our sense of being an individual separate from the rest of life into the immediacy of the present moment.

When we are fully in the here and now, there is only the unfolding flux of life being witnessed by consciousness, without any sense of separation.

When a student asked to be shown the way to enlightenment, his master replied..

"do you hear that babbling brook? Enter there."
