What is a 1974 Mercury Outboard 7.5 HP worth. The guy says it runs "alright"?

Just wonder before I buy, thanks, and if anyone knows how fast this would be compared to a older 10hp outboard that would be great. I'm kind of concerned about it.

It really hard to set a price. You did well looking to see what others sell for. Some outboards not get used much and some are used everyday, so, that may be a consideration. If, it look fairly new for it's age then it was probably not used a lot. Remove the engine cover and see how clean it look. The price you mention not bad, look what a new one cost. The price depends on how you feel. Now, a 10 HP will live up to it's size compared to the 7.5 and this works on up the ladder. You try the 7.5 on your boat and then the 10 and you may want the 10. But, then you try a 15 and well there we go. So, if you just want a good dependable outboard that you can fish and not worried about speed then for myself the 7.5 do what it need to do. I will say, where I live, the River is not far. I would really want a 10 HP or lager to move on up stream, but, I have had a 5 HP on a 14' Flat-bottom and it got me where I wanted to go, just have to learn to enjoy the scenery getting there! LOL!

$300.00 is a good deal.

I wouldnt sell my similar 8 hp Evninrude for taht.

If you are wanting to push a light load, say one person in a 12 ft boat, you wont see a lot of difference.

For 2 people in that same boat, it wont put the boat "on step" though.

Honestly I would not buy that motor. Just because it runs good now doesn't make it a good buy. Parts are near impossible to find on one that old plus the electronics are old point and condenser and a constant headache.  If still interested no more than $ 200.00
