What is a 2.5" External Enclosure?

I was just wondering what is a 2.5" External Enclosure. Here is a link to what I am talking about:

Does it mean that I can buy a internal harddrive and put it in this case and use it as a external harddrive.

  1. yes you can do that as i did the same to my external hard drive and it worked fine


  2. Yup, if you have an internal harddrive that is 2.5" size you could fit it in one of these external enclosure to make it external (usb/firewire).

    2.5" size are usually laptop size harddrives.

  3. It's an EMPTY harddrive enclosure to be used as an external drive. The 2.5 drive is a laptop drive and is  light weight  and designed for mobility.
