What is a 501 student?

I'm doing some research and came across a question that says "how do you assist 501 students and special services students?"

  1. If you're in the U.S., they are more than likely refering to a 504 student.  This is a component of the law that allows accomodations for students without placing them in special education (ie. dyslexia, adhd, diabetes, etc.)  If a child is too large to fit in a regular desk, they can receive 504 accomodations to have a table and chair.  Hope this helps.

    basically a 504 can provide most accommodations--just not special ed classes

    504 includes braille, sign language, assistive technology. furnishing adaptations, nursing aide for medically fragile student, added time,minor classwork, homework modifications (not to the curriculum), allowing snacks/breaks in class, a behavior plan, etc...
