  1. The British Forces Post Office (or British Field Post Office) (BFPO) is an agency that provides a postal service to HM Forces, separate from that provided by Royal Mail in the United Kingdom. BFPO addresses are used for the delivery of mail in the UK and around the world.

  2. British Forces Post Office

It's so you can send mail to people in the forces, who for security reasons you may not know their location or posting

    .

  3. British Forces Post Code, it's a bit like a post or zip code for each unit, when I was in RAF Wildenrath in Germany it was BFPO 42, when I was in RAF Episcopi in Cyprus it was BFPO 53, there's nothing 'secret' about them.

  4. British Forces Postal Office

  5. It's a system used by the military so you can send letters to serving troops without having to know exactly where they are.  So BFPO 77 might be a camp in Brighton, a front line unit in Afghanistan or a secret task force somewhere you didn't know we were fighting.

  6. my brain hurts

  7. as Old Know All above, but just to add, if the unit is on operations and changes location the BFPO number normally goes with them , like in Iraq of Afghanistan for example.

In overseas permanent bases Germany, Cyprus etc. the BFPO number stays the same if the unit moves.
