"Sydney Harbor (Sydney Nova Scotia) is being evaluated for dredging as part of a long term plan to build a container pier on or around the existing coal piers."

This is part of my assignment, Wiki tells me what a Coal Pier is, but I'm having a more trouble finding a definition for Containter Pier. Any help?

  1. its like a port

  2. A coal pier is a long pier built to facilitate the loading of coal ships by getting the coal out to deep enough water to float the big ships. A container pier is the same idea, only built to handle those big metal container-boxes. Coal is 'pumped' loose from railcars into the ships, containers are lifted off semis and trains and placed on the ships. Visually, a container port is easily recognized by the giant cranes and gantries that loom over the ships for loading and unloading.

The dredging would be to provide more depth of water so the ships can get in closer.

  3. The above answer is correct.

No need to add anything else.
