what does it do?

Is it just like Tivo?

A DVR (digital video recorder) records TV shows on a hard disk inside the unit. It includes a scheduling function that allows unattended recording. The software is way more friendly that a VCR.

TiVo is one example or a DVR (the best, in my opinion).

A DVR is a Digital-Video-Recorder. Record, pause, and rewind live TV. Records shows that are in the future so when your out of your house you can come back and watch the show. Have fun with your new DVR :D
