What is a Derby Winner?

I know about the Kentucky Derby and have info regarding other Derbys. But does being called a Derby mean anything in particular such as length of race. Or style of compitition.

  1. derby is english for a day of racing! MEET ME AT THE DERBY MATE!


  2. The word 'Derby' means 1. Either of several horse races held annually and usually restricted to 3 year-olds. 2. a race or contest open to all comers or to a specified category of contestants.

    I dont think saying the word 'derby' refers to anything in particular or any particular length/race. I suppose it only matters in what context you are using it in.
