What is a Digital Delay Pedal

I was thinking of buying the digitach digital delay, but I want full detail of what it does and what it is, (My first pedal besides my distortion pedal)

If you are going to buy a Digital Delay, get the Boss. That is the most widely and cleanest of them all. That is what most metal players use and van halen etc...
