What is a Driver's Abstract in Alberta, Canada, and how do I obtain one?

I am a British citizen on a year's working holiday in Banff, Alberta, Canada. I am looking at applying for some jobs, which involve driving. Part of the application needs to include a Class 5 Driver's Licence, and a Driver's Abstract (?). Currently I have a full UK Driver's Licence. What do I need to do to meet these criteria?

  1. You would need to get a Canadian driver's license and also provide your driving history (this is an abstract) from the UK. Canada does not recognize international driver's licenses. I'm not sure how the UK works - but you should be able to get a history from wherever issues your driver's licenses there, or your insurance agent.

The Alberta Services website below should answer all your questions.

  2. A driver's abstract is a printout which details your driving history.  What class license you have; any speeding tickets; any other infractions; whether you have a valid drivers license or if it has been suspended for some reason.

In BC, I get an abstract from my insurance agent (ICBC); I imagine you will need to get yours from the UK.
