  1. Good news- French cusine has influenced much of what the world cooks and eats.

Just eat what the locals eat; trust me- you'll be glad you did.

  2. A main meal or a dinner for friends ?

A main meal is composed of a vegetal and/or animalproteic-composed stuff, together or apart -

Then a main dish with vegetables and sea-food, or meat

         Then a green salad ( mandatory )

          Cheese(s) non- mandatory today

           Dessert/Fruits/sorbets/ice-creams/pastry

           Coffee

Drinks : aperitif - the best of the best being ONE glass

                           of champagne

Main wine - white or red - depends - choice = very important - a job for husbands

Two wines = possible but risk of headaches

then with coffee - cognac, armagnac, schnaps

this tends to disappear - France drinks always

                            less

one hour after the very end of the meal, a second glass of champagne is VERY welcome.

Now my proposal :  Raw spinach salad with its lemon and

cream sauce ( no vinegar )

toasted baguette and foie gras slice

                                       Chilled Gewurztraminer as a wine

                                   Deer roast beef

                                   with a hugecaroussel  of légumes

                                   braisés including mushrooms, black-

                                   berries and grape-berries

Wine : high range red Morgon

Green-salad combined with a grilled in the

oven cabécou ( small goat cheeese )

Iles flottantes combined with strawberry salad and massepin  - One glass of Montbazillac or chilled Sauternes ( good and much cheaper )

Coffee - then one hour walking in the forest ( at least )

  3. Moules Marinere! (mussells in cream and shallot sauce) Wonderful!

  7. foods do differ according to region, but generally 3-course meals are most popular & go up from there re: number of courses.

start w/ appetizer such as pate or foie gras

    next course salad

    next course entree

next to last course would be cheese

    last course dessert

have an apperitif (light alcohol drink before dinner, not lunch)
