  1. The classic tree of our imagination grows straight up, stretching its branches to the sky. While some trees actually spread sideways, or even droop and weep, it is the fastigate class of trees with their tall trunks, that extend their branches straight up to form a leafy canopy, or a fastigia, latin for rooftop! Their narrow trunks and leafy tops make them ideal for urban gardens. The Fastigate Tree Grove is an arboreatum of these tall, upward growing trees, including Hornbeam, White Pine, Purple-Leafed Beech, and others.
