  1. I don't know where you people get these six figure salaries from.

GPs have an average income of around £80,000. On top of this, they have contracts with various drug companies etc. and can effectively earn up to £120,000.

Whereas a consulatant in a hospital earn about £94,000, and it doesn't get much more than that.

However, to get to the consultant stage, you need to go through the underpaid section of your life, around £26,000 with up to 50% pay additional depending on the amount of overtime you work.

I'm currently earning about £35,000 but that's with some overtime.

  2. GPs are essentially self employed and can typically earn between £80,000-£120,000 per annum.

  3. They have a licience to print money.

well about £150k to 200k per annum

  4. But their salaries do have to cover surgery costs, i.e. building costs, receptionist, secretaries etc.

  5. My estimate for a GP is £100k.

    Consultant in a hospital-£180k.
