The primary function of the Golgi body is to process and package macromolecules such as proteins and lipids that are synthesized by the cell. It is particularly important in the processing of proteins for secretion. The Golgi apparatus forms a part of the endomembrane system of eukaryotic cells.

The Golgi is composed of membrane-bound stacks known as cisternae. Between five and eight are usually present; however, as many as sixty have been observed.

they're apparatuses that serves to package and modify materials within a cell membrane. Think of it as a mail center. For example, let's say something from the nucleolus gets transported a vesicle to the golgi complex. It can modify the material, put a big fat address on the thing telling it to go to... I don't know, the cell membrane, and off it goes. (it doesn't literally put an address on the thing. but you get my point) :P
