What is a Home Page?

I have received an answer to a previous question which tells me to make Firefox my home page, and not Explorer. How do I do this (on a Mac)?

Firefox and Explorer are not home pages.  They are internet browsers.  These are programs that can be bought at any PC store or downloaded from the Net.  

A home page is the first website your browser automatically goes to the moment you open it.
