  1. It means you HAVE to show up to court on the dates it specifies.  It's not bad. It just means you will be questioned to see if you will be able to serve on the jury for the next few court cases coming up.

Edit: Some Summonses will say to call in by a certain time, and they'll tell you whether or not they need you that day.

Edit: You should contact the clerk of court.  Different states have different regulations regarding them, so give them a call on Tuesday.

  2. congratulations! you have been selected to serve on a jury, criminal or civil, you will be paid even if you don't serve. you must be there by 9am everyday or be fined unless you have a good excuse and you must answer the summons or be fined or jailed, again, congrats!

  3. you are required to serve on jury duty once you turn 18. you call every morning to see if your number is called and you are needed. ive gotten 2 and never got my number called. but tell your boss incase you have to show up. not bad, just boring.

  4. No its not bad

    ITS YOUR CIVIC DUTY!

    You MUST show up !

You are being screened to be a jury member

  5. Every citizen can get that notice. It is a notice to come to the court building and possibly serve on a jury, it may be for criminal or civil (someone suing someone else).

Depending on where you live you may only have to go one day and if you are not picked for  a jury you do not have to come back until you get another summons or you may have to stick around for a couple of days waiting to be picked or not.

Many employers pay your salary while you are there. Your county pays you a small amount for coming in. In my county it is $17. plus carfare, not much.

Serving on a jury is an honor and a method of continuing a good criminal justice system.

If you avoid a summons most courts will just send you another one. If you avoid that one most will send an officer to your house and you could be arrested.
