What is a Leiter-R test?

Should I request one to part of my son's IEP assessment? He is 3 and expressive language delayed NOT AUTISTIC. It was recommended by a doctor so I am looking for details. TIA!

Your doctor shouldn't be recommending a specific test unless he is a psychiatrist or neurologist.

I don't believe the Leiter-R (R is for "revised") has norms for 3 year-olds. Additionally, one must be take a course and be certified as an administrator of this test in order to use and interpret it.

The SICD is a better verbal and non-verbal test for preschoolers.

The district's diagnostic examiner will decide which tests are appropriate for your child.

It is an IQ test that does not require spoken language. It is a series of game-like tasks assessing reasoning, visualization, memory, and attention.

I would not use this test with a 3 year old.   There are better assessments.  The school psychologist will explain which test they think is best and why.
