Should I request one to part of my son's IEP assessment? He is 3 and expressive language delayed NOT AUTISTIC. It was recommended by a doctor so I am looking for details. TIA!

  1. Your doctor shouldn't be recommending a specific test unless he is a psychiatrist or neurologist.

    I don't believe the Leiter-R (R is for "revised") has norms for 3 year-olds. Additionally, one must be take a course and be certified as an administrator of this test in order to use and interpret it.

    The SICD is a better verbal and non-verbal test for preschoolers.

    The district's diagnostic examiner will decide which tests are appropriate for your child.


  2. It is an IQ test that does not require spoken language. It is a series of game-like tasks assessing reasoning, visualization, memory, and attention.

  3. I would not use this test with a 3 year old.   There are better assessments.  The school psychologist will explain which test they think is best and why.
