  1. It's basically a girl (boys are Gary-Drews or something like that) that is perfection with limited to no flaws at all.

  3. Just read the wikipedia article about her.

Or the history of Mary Sue on fanhistory wiki.

  4. Let's say you decided to write a Harry Potter fan fiction. You decide to make yourself the main character. You are absolutely beautiful and everyone adores you, and even though you don't live in England, Hogwarts has made an exception especially for you.

Harry Potter is your boyfriend (though everyone would want to be that) and the power of your magic unsurpassed by even the Dark Lord (whom you kill in the story, after which you become the headmaster of Hogwarts and President of the Wizards at the same time).

.. In other words: A "Mary Sue" is an incredibly unrealistic, cliched and hollow character without practically any flaw. You see this a lot in fan-fictions when writers insert themselves into the story, and make all their wishes come true by making themselves this absolutely wonderful and perfect character.

  5. "Mary Sue, sometimes shortened simply to Sue, is a pejorative term used to describe a fictional character who plays a major role in the plot and is particularly characterized by overly idealized and clichéd mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as wish-fulfillment fantasies for their authors.
