What is a Montessori daycare/preschool?

I should add my son is Autistic is this a good environment for him or too advanced? We are considering several schools for him and one is a Montessori school

They start learning colours, reading and writing at preschool age.  It's more educational that standard preschool.  Not necessarily christian.

I think a Montessori school would be perfect for your child. Just make sure that the school is a true Montessori school. There are schools out there that claim they are Montessori but are not. Maria Montessori was an educator who was able to train kids with mental disability to take and pass a public achievement exam. The kids even did better than kids who were not mentally handicapped. Montessori teachers let the kids work and discover things on their own. The educational toys used (mostly made of natural materials) let the students discover the answers for themselves. The teachers mainly act as facilitators.

How old is your son?  If he is under 3 get in home intervention or they have centers they can go to for FREE during the day.  If he is over three try head start it is also FREE.

it has nothing to do with being christian. i attended a montessori school from preschool through 8th grade. a montessori school uses the teaching methods of maria montessori.  children in a montessori preschool are taught to write cursive, read, and begin mathematics using physical materials which help them understand what they are learning. at most montessori preschools they also learn how to cook, play music, begin to speak a foreign language, and paint and draw. they are great schools!

No, not Christian.  Montessori is a curriculum and philosophy on how children learn that was developed my Maria Montessori.  It is an excellent teaching philosophy that takes into account children's developmental levels and the developmental sequence.  Facets of a Montessori program include things like a highly organized classroom (everything has a place...kids get out 'mats' to work on that identify their space), lessons are given to children before they are allowed to use something (they have lessons for just about everything including things like 'how to carry a chair'), classrooms are generally very calm and quiet with children waiting to get a teacher's attention, real objects are used (real glasses for drinking, for example, no plastic), when visitors observe, a child will usually ask you if you would like tea or a cookie or anything, visuals and 'hands on' items are used (e.g. to learn math, they use these counting beads that help with the abstractness of numbers)...There are many many more facets of a Montessori preschool, and the Montessori philosophy is certainly one of, if not the best, system for young children to learn and grow.

They should provide great information.  You have my support.  I bless you for your petience with an autisic child.  a young man in my daughters pre-k class seems to have asperger disorder, which is a mild form of autism.  my daughter have befriended him well and i am impressed.  it just must take alot out of you.  thanks for trying to have him recieve the best! Your child needs structure 24 hours a day everyday. Montessori school is not structured. Also your child needs an IEP. I don't believe those schools provide IEP's.
