  1. nordiques were a hockey team from quebec that got bought my the colorado, theres a hockey stick with a puck and a big N beside the hockey stick

  2. Nordiques roughly translates to "Northmen"  The name was picked to emphasize how far north Quebec City was, even though the Edmonton Oilers were further north.  (Both in the WHA and the NHL)

The logo was designed to resemble an igloo.

  3. nordique is french for "northerner".  their logo is a N with a stick superimposed, with a puck just chillin to the right of it.

  4. Thye logo is actually an igloo with a hockey stick.  This is mentioned on page 3 of the media guides from 1979-80 through 1988-89, and on page 4 from 1989-90 through 1994-95.

Nordique is a term used to refer to the natives of the Ungava region in the province of Quebec (and is taught in grades 2 or 3 in the Quebec elementary school system - or at least it was taught in the 1940s)

  5. I always thought it looked like an elephant, despite the meaning. I always wondered what foreign people thought. The elephants?? What the h**l?? I guess its more fearsome than the "wild" or the "rangers" How 'bout them "capitals" eh. I'm shakin in my boots. (Way to get off topic) (sheesh) Elephant.

  6. The word Nordique is the French word for Nordic. Not sure how many Nordic families are up in that region, but there must be many. (By Nordic I mean of Norwegian decent)

The design is simple. The logo had the shape of an "N" and the old stadium (Le Colisee)  and a hockey stick. (It was more rounded before the renovations--http://www.flickr.com/photos/34988105@N0...

The addition of the fleur-de-lis is typically French- representing the French settlers and heritage in that region.

Still one of my favorite uniforms in hockey!!

  7. Spaceboy and LITY beat me to a question I hold dear .. but their insight is very well thought of. And sorry Turk but my Nordiques jersey is not for sale. Aubut made that mistake once, I will not make it twice.

  8. I've never thought to investigate that (the meaning/history of Nordiques).  Interesting post.  Thanks.

  9. Nordique is a northern french Canadian.  The Nordiques used a stylized N that some say resembled an elephant.  The colors were light blue and red.  Shame is the year they moved to Colorado, the re-named Nords (Avalanche) won the cup with Roy in net!
