  1. a rca plug is those red white and yellow plugs that you connect your vcr or ps2 or xbox 360 to the tv but some have red and white on both ends of the cable for audio connections like when you connect two amps red is usually right whie left is white. just look in the back of a vcr and you should see these two sockets red and white and thats where these cable would go for audio

  2. Thats a rather good question.

First you need to know that there are connection cables with RCA plugs at the end.  (I put a link below to show you a sample)

These are friction-fit connectors that are used to transfer audio and video from one piece of electronic equipment to another. These cables plug into "RCA Jacks" (See the second link for a picture of a snap-in jack).

    IMPORTANT:

RCA jacks are sometimes called "Phono Connectors"

There are some color conventions you might want to memorize:

Red/White - This is for left/right analog audio

Yellow - This is for Composite video (lowest possible quality)

Red/GreenBlue - These jacks are for Component Video.

Orange - This is for coaxial-digital from a DVD player. One cable can carry 6 channels of sound.

  3. Audio plugs, which come in a set (typically), red is left and white is right.

A place to see them (usually) would be on stereos, DVD players or VCRs, where they are sometimes used (the yellow cable is for video).
