I have seen nesting boxes mentioned a few times on Yahoo answers and was just wondering what it was. Does anybody know what it is and why its used. I dont agree with breeding Rabbits as there are so many unwanted abandened rabbits dumped at shelters every year. We should find homes for those Rabbits before making more. I just want to know. =]

  1. A nesting box is usually a box constructed out of ply wood for domestic rabbits to use as a shelter inside a rabbit hutch (to keep out of the wind), or to use as a place for having babies. Most of the time it is used for rabbits to have babies in. If they are not going to have babies they usually just have a rest bored. The rest board is just a piece of wood that allows the rabbit to have a place off the wire bottom of there rabbit hutches. When I was raising rabbits for 4-H projects, we just gave all our rabbits nest boxes because they lived out doors, and some times the wind would pick up, and they liked ot snuggle up in the nest box.

I am including a web sight with pictures and plans for a rabbit nest box. The nest box on this sight has a wire bottom, but the bottom can also be made of wood. I personally liked the wood, because it didn't let the little bunny's feet get caught.

  2. they dont nest in a nesting box  they nest in a burrow

  3. It's where the mom would give birth to the babies

so you don't need one of those unless one is expecting
