What is a Republic type of government?

Can someone explain to me what happens in a Republic type of government and give a country that uses it.

  2. Put simply, a republic is a country that is not led by a monarch. Where the people (or at least a some of people) have impact on government by voting, holding office, etc.Republic comes from latin: res publica, which means "public thing" or "public matter".

    Examples would be France, Ancient Rome, the United States, Turkey.

  3. A republic is democracy by representation.  The people vote in representatives to represent them.  Most governments are republics, the US is a good example.
