Question:

What is a S-80 or M-80 marine tester?also sometimes called a s-80 or m-80neon tester.?

it is used for checking ignition coponents on ourboard marine engines. thats about all i know. anybody know where i can find one? or are they obsolete?

  1. I looked for one of these testers and was unable to find one. If you have a Seloc repair manual, it describes a way to use a 1.5 volt battery with a wire soldered to each end of it in place of the tester. I tried that and wasn't real happy with the results.

    I was able to find out that I had a bad coil by simply moving the coil wire from the coil that wasn't firing to the terminal in the power pack for the coil that was firing. and vice versa. In other words the coil that was firing, fired from either terminal in the power pack and the one that wasn't firing wouldn't fire from either terminal.
