What is a SSID? How can i figure out what it is on my computer?

  1. Enter your router's config page. It is probably:

    http://192.168.0.1/


  2. It is the ID for your Wi-Fi Access point. When you install and configure your Wireless Access Point, you would mention something for the SSID aka ESSID.

    If your laptop is wireless capable, (most modern laptops are) go near your access point, turn on the wireless on your laptop, and try to connect to other networks by going to your control panel. Then it will show all Wi-Fi access points by the ESSID or SSID. It wouild also show the neighboring ones within the vicinity of the laptop. Identify yours and then connect to it by clicking on the connect button.

  3. SSID is the identifier on a wireless network

    If you have a router then that will have a SSID as default it will be the model of the router but you can change that and also switch it off to stop people using your wireless network with-out your permission, using this along with WEP, wireless encryption technology to secure the network
