Question:

What is a Silent Auction?

How exactly does one work? I understand it is "silent" in the fact no one is calling out bids. I will be attending one for a fundraiser and want to know the etiquette of both bidding and also donating. The organizer has suggested donations of baskets, new items, time-shares etc. Has anyone done this before? I'm assuming a "basket" donation is one of goods/services or a theme item? Any suggestions of what has worked for you would be great! Thanks in advance.

    EVERYBODY CHECK IT OUT!!!

  2. Themed baskets are great.   Bird Basket would contain bird feeder, reference book, bird food, binoculars and so on.

Stationery Basket - everything for the home office.

In front of each auction item is a sheet of paper with the name of the auction item.  Then an opening bid, say $5.00

You write your name  and your bid - $10.  This goes on throughout the event.  Most have a auction close time listed. Last one we had raised 7,500

  3. A silent auction is one where you do your bidding on paper.... you see something that you want to win and you write down your name or bidding number, and the amount or service you want to bid and things go from there......
