What is a Snake Bite?

Question

As in a shot of spirits. I have heard of a few different recipes, and imagine there are far more undocumented.

Equal parts hard cider (like Strongbow) and some pale beer, like a lager or a light ale.

Snake Bite Black recipe

1/2 pint lager

1/2 pint cider

2 splashes blackcurrant cordial

Pour 1/2 pint Lager, and 1/2 pint Cider into a Pilsner glass, then add Black Currant until drink is purple in color.

Snake Bite recipe

1/2 pint lager

1/2 pint dry cider

Pour ingredients into a pint glass. Drink. Fall over.

*Can substitute sweet cider for the dry.

Canadian Snake Bite recipe

1 oz sambuca

1 oz tequila

2 - 3 dashes Tabasco® sauce

Pour the Sambuca into a brandy snifter and the tequila seperately into a rocks or old-fashioned glass. Add a couple dashes of Tabasco sauce to the glass with tequila. Roll the Sambuca around the snifter (like a cement mixer), ignite, and allow to burn for a second or two. Pour the Sambuca into the tequila rocks glass and cap it with the brandy snifter so as to extinguish the flames.

This should form some smoke within the glasses. Carefully lift the snifter and inhale the fumes, then pound the tequila and Sambuca mixture. Packs a pretty good wallop.

Chocolate Snake Bite recipe

1/2 oz Bailey's® Irish cream

1/2 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur

1/2 oz brown creme de cacao

1/2 oz Goldschlager® cinnamon schnapps

Pour ingredients into a stainless steel shaker over ice, and shake until completely cold. Strain into an old-fashioned glass, and serve.

The only Snake Bite I ever heard of was in the UK.

It was lager and cider combined, pretty potent, in fact some bars banned it.

It was known as loopy juice !

In US, it's half cider or lager and half guinness, or in the words of my Irish friends, a waste of good guinness.
