What is a Southern Belle?

Hi "ya'll"! i am a mid 20's white male moving from chicago to southern mississippi very soon. i am a teacher and plan to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city (pollution, traffic, careless people, ect.) Plus, you know about Chicago's crime...

I think I am partially moving to the south for southern belles...you know those cute talking girly girls. but i really don't know what a southern belle is. What are they all about? How do you approach them and so forth? i know they are more well-mannered than girls from the north for the most part. So, what is a Southern Belle?

A Southern Belle is a young woman who has been brought up proper in the South.. They go to tea and cotillions and they wear fancy dresses and gloves and act like a lady

a southern belle cant be described better than a southern belle :) she is a polite, sophisticated woman. in the movies, they were portrayed as dainty, southern speaking women who wore big fluffy dresses. but, in reality, they are just women like anybody else. what makes them different.....is the accent. ALOT of men melt when they hear a beautiful woman speaking with a southern accent. they say its "cute" haha. i live in alabama, and even people that live here say i have a thick accent. now dont get me wrong, not all southern women are polite and stuff. some of them can be total c*nts. but, for the majority, we are pretty nice :)

I'm from the South and you will find out about Southern Belles soon enough. Don't expect Scarlett O'Hara, though, most of the plantations are gone or are now museums.

My concern is: What kind of teacher abbreviates etcetera "ect".
