  1. Straight run is when the males and females are mixed together.  Say you order 12 ducklings.  You may get 6 males and 6 females.  You may get 11 males and 1 female.  It's a gamble.

We got our first ducklings last year.  I chose the Khaki Campbells because they are fatter ducks and can't fly.  I didn't want one of my ducks getting scared and flying away when outside.

Just 6 months ago, I ordered Peking ducks.  Between the 2 breeds, Peking are my favorite.  My one female lays one egg every day!

I guess it depends on what you want them for.  Are you looking for a pet?  A duck to raise and then eat?  Or a duck to raise as a pet and eat their eggs?

Which ever answer, Khakis and Peking are great choices.  Just get more than one though.  They are very social.  A male duck is called a drake and a female duck is called a hen.  Obviously, babies are called ducklings.

There are many breeds to choose from.  The choice is up to you.

    Good luck!

  2. When you buy St. Run from the hatchery, the do not s*x them before sending them to you. They just grab some and put them in a box.

I suggest paying the extra money for sexed ducks. You should never have more than 1 male per 3 or 4 females. They fight like crazy and 6 males and 3 females is just too much and they could injure the females with overbreeding\.

  3. Find out what you are doing BEFORE you get the ducklings.

Read and Google  - raising baby ducks.
