I'm 16. I've just signed up to be an Amazon Associate. Basically, I advertise for Amazon and get paid for it. I went to the section as to where I choose how to get paid. Before I choose, they want my Tax ID Number, my Tax Name, and my organization type. I'm assuming my type is Individual, but what the heck do I put for my Tax ID Number and my Tax Name? If I have to go get this info from the court house, can I even do this at 16? Thanks.

  1. For an individual it is a Social Security Number.

For a business, including sole proprietors who have employees, it is an Employer Identification Number (EIN).  An Estate, trust or Fiduciary also uses the EIN as their Tax ID number.

Tax name must refer to the name taxes will be filed under.  For an individual it would be his name.  For a corporation, partnership, etc. it would be the business name.

  2. In your case, your tax Id is your social security number. Tax name is your name. Even if you haven't filed a tax return yet, it will be the name you gave to any employers who may have withheld taxes on you.

Unless you formed a corporation or other legal business entity, the type of business is individual. We call that "sole proprietor", an individual with his own business. That should do it. Don't sweat this. They just want to know who's name and social security number to put on the 1099 information report used to tell the IRS how much money they paid you. Make sure you include the whole amount on your return when you file.

  3. Tax ID is social security number for individual.

Tax name is your personal name for an individual.

You are s sole proprietor, and responsible for withholding and paying all taxes.  Put 15.3% away minimum for your tax bill at the end of the year (unless you don't plan to make more than $400)

    Good luck.
