  1. The United STates Congress has two houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate.  A member of the House of Representatives is called a Representative while a member of the Senate is called a Senator.  There are two senators per state and membership in the house of Representatives is proportional to each state population but not to exceed 435 members. The Speaker of the house is a Representative who is voted by majority vote of members of the House of Representatives to preside over their sessions.

  2. A Representative is one elected to the House of Representatives from a district within a State to represent the people of that district in the Congress. The number of Representatives from each State varies, since the total number is determined by that State's population. However, each State does have at least one Representative and that person is usually referred to as a Member-At-Large since that person does not represent a single district within the State, but all of the people within that State.

There are, at present, 435 Representatives in the House of Representatives. One can add to that the Delegates from the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Island. Delegates come from territories and the seat of the Federal government and do not vote in the House of Representatives.

The Speaker is the official selected by the members of the majority party in the House of Representatives. In contrast to the role of Speaker in a parliament, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has the authority to name chairmen of the various committees and make assignments of the members of the majority party to each committee.

  3. Each states will vary of how many reps they will have. They are part of the debating group that makes bills and stuff.

The Speaker of the House (Nancy Pelosi) is a person that usually be at the debating and runs the show, or sometimes someone else is running it, But Nancy is the US Speaker.

The Speaker of the House is 3rd in line of Presidency

  4. every state has only 2 senators. the senators represent the state...every state has a different number of representatives based on the population of the state..the representatives represent the people.. the representatives are there to make their vote i think within 48 hours and decide based on will it positively affect the people..the senators vote takes 2 weeks and it decides if it will positively affect the state....both senators and representatives vote on the same bills.  both senators and representatives are called congressman...and both together make up the congress..the speaker of the house is the person the majority party, either democrats or rebulicans, elect to be the speaker
