What is a UK Chartered Surveyor?

Somebody who has trained and practices as a surveyor and is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (rics). For most the job role is one of inspecting houses on behalf of clients (corporate or private) with a view to idenitifying value and or build quality/issues/problems. Membership supposedly helps ensure that the client gets protection were things to go wrong, however it is very rare that a surveyor is called to question in their job.
