  1. A Visa sponsorship is:-

The person who sponsors (financialy supports) a person who has or is about to apply for a visa for a foreign country, this ensures that the person who got the visa, will not have recourse to public funds from that government in the country they are staying (for however long that visa states it will run)

  2. someone or someplace sponsoring your visa - there are so many applicants they need some way to whittle them down, and they use sponsorships to figure out who is important to let in.

  3. If you have to visit  some other country from your own,

you may need a visa.  Someone from the country to which you propose to travel to, has to sponsor you.  The sponsor

can be an individual or a company. The sponsors undertake the responsibility of taking care of you upon arrival and see that you leave the country within the visa period.

A few countries issue visas upon arrival, provided that you have enough funds and a return or onward journey ticket.

You do not need a sponsor in such cases.

Regulations with regard to the Issue of visas and sponsorship differ from country to country.  It depends upon your nationality too.
