  1. no, the zip code is postal, the area code is phone.

the area code is also called the NPA, or Number Plan Area.

The NPA is used to route telephone calls. Each area has a three digit office code and a 4 digit subscriber ID.

like this:  (NPA)-NXX-XXXX. As you can see, you cannot have more than one unique 7 digit number in a NPA, so they divided the country (and the world) into areas, this way all 7 digits can be used in different parts of the country.

a call NXX-XXXX to NXX-XXXX is a local call, but when you add the NPA, NPA-NXX-x*x to NPA-NXX-XXXX this would be an out or area, or intra-LATA call and would be long distace and subject to a toll charge.

  2. no. your postal code is usually 5 numbers long. (at least ours is) and then your area code is the 3 first numbers for your phone number. like (***)***-****

  3. yep

  4. no a postal code or a zip code (same thing) is five digits

your area code is the first 3 numbers in ur fone #

    1-(234)-567-890
