  1. In art the medium refers to the materials used to make the work or works of art.  For example oil paint on canvas, or pen and ink on paper, a clay or ceramic statue, etc.


  2. A "medium" in art terms means what is used to create the piece. ie: oil paint, chalk pastels, pencil, photograph, mixed mediums, etc.
