What is the impact or value placed upon the work you have selected? Why did you select this specific work?

This is an assignment question for a class at school, isn't it?  Can you at least rephrase it so it looks more like your own investigation into the subject?

You have phrased the question in terms of such huge generalities that the question itself is almost worthless (not to mention that it's AN artistic work). Anyway, what's "modern"? Is it a matter of date alone, or a period of time? And how to gauge the time frame for, say, the "modern novel" against "modern" poetry, painting, or photography? Or are you supposed to choose a work of art of recognized value and explain why it's "modern"? In other words, you need to define your terms first. After that, explaining why a modern work is valuable or a valuable work is modern means you have a field of discourse only 1/2 the size of what otherwise might prevent you from even getting started.
