when people talk about hair styles, what is meant by bang? is it a fringe? thanks.

Bang means fringe in North America. Less commonly it also means long pieces of hair that frame your face but are seperated from the rest of your hair.

where i live there's a difference between bangs and fringe... bangs are shorter and usually straight across above the eyes while fringe is like slightly grown out bangs that frame the face nicely.
