Is one still valid if it's in fax form?

Why would Canadian immigration for student visa need it?

I don't know. But your bank probably does. Ask them.

And a fax is basically a copy. Most immigration offices accept copies of documents for the initial application, but usually require you to bring in the original during the interview. Unless there is no interview, then you probably need to submit the original.
