  1. It is a large, aquatic rodent famous for building dams across rivers and streams. There are two species, the American beaver (Castor canadensis) and the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber). They have webbed feet and a flat, paddle-like tail. Glands at the base of the tail produce an oily, water-proofing secretion that is spread through the fur when grooming. They feed on the leaves, twigs and bark of trees and on water-plants.

During the Pleistocene epoch, a species of giant beaver (Castoroides ohioensis) existed in North America. It was up to 2.5 metres long and weighed up to 220lb. It became extinct around 10,000 years ago, at the end of the last Ice Age.

  2. a rodent because of the 2 large teeth that are common to rodents

  3. It is the largest rodent in North America; it is semi-aquatic.  They can dam a stream to produce a pond, where they will build a lodge of sticks and mud which sticks out of the water, but the entrance is underwater, so it's safe from predators.

They even cut down trees to get the wood for their dams and lodges.

  4. Is a large semi-aquatic rodent, native to Canada and United States.                                                                                                                   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Be...
