What is a bed doll? in relation to crocheting?

I love to crochet new things and I keep hearing people crocheting patterns for a bed doll. Can someone please tell me what is a bed doll and what they look like and how they are made?

Okay, I saw those Bed Dolls at Pier 1 Imports. They are little dolls that are believed to take care of problems. You tell them your problem, and then you put them under your pillow, and while you are sleeping, they take care of your problem. But I don't believe that they actually work.

The second person who answered stated there are patterns at Annie's Attic which is true.  I also made one once, with a pattern from Annie's that was an indian maiden. It was great fun. My neice, who is 1/8th Cherokee, still has it with her in college.

A bed doll is just that....a doll that sits in the middle of your bed as a decoration.  They have very full crocheted dresses that spread out around them.  You can also get what they call pillow dolls.  These are like a half doll that is inserted into a round pillow form and then the outfit is crocheted around them.  If you go to a craft store like Michael's, JoAnn's, etc, you can find them in the doll section and they usually come with a free pattern to make the dress.  You might also find them at WalMart if they still sell crafts.  There is someone on E-Bay right now who is selling pattern books of various bed dolls.  If you can find her page, you can get an idea of what they look like.  Type in crocheted bed dolls in the search area, then go down 7 listings to HELENS CREATIONS.  Click on this listing and the pictures of the patterns will come up.  Have fun looking .

Bed dolls are dolls that wear crocheted dresses that are very full and fluffy. They are called bed dolls because most people use them for decorations in the center of their beds. Go to Annies Attic website if you want to see patterns for them. I have made many of them and they are really cute. You usually get the dolls at a craft store and then dress them once the outfit is done. There are many patterns and you can change the dress according to the season or mood you are in.

Edit - The pattern usually calls for a doll that is larger than a Barbie doll. You can get them at most craft stores. They come on a variety of hair and skin colors.
