I'm not even sure, but I've been seeing alot of my friends mention them and my guess is it has to do with cooking somehow?

Is it like an Asian dish or something?

  1. Bento box is a Japanese tradition for transporting lunch. The box itself can be a simple plastic container, but is usually an expression of the owners taste and style. Some bento sets are made of fancy decorated lacquered wood. Search Harajuku bento box or Hello Kitty bento box for cute designs and accessories. Bento is traditionally wrapped in a cloth pouch or tied with a large square of beautiful cloth( furoshiki) for carrying. A lot of effort is put into the food in a bento box-as with most things Japanese, it's considered an art form and must taste good but also be pleasing to the eye.

Bento box in a Japanese restaurant is meant to be eaten there at the table and not taken away. It is a tray with separated sections containing an array of small portions of food-usually some kind of meat, rice, sushi, dipping sauces, all attractively arranged.

teriyaki (chicken, beef, shrimp..etc), sesame chicken, tempura, and/or sushi

  3. It is Japanese. I don't think it has to do with the way it is cooked, it is simply different japanese foods in a little tray.
